Canon Pixma MX870 Driver Download
Canon Pixma MX870 Driver Download – I’ve been using my MX870 for a few months now and loved it very much. I have had many HP printers in the past and decided to switch to a Canon product. I want something that has less expensive ink and enough operation. I found it on this machine. My favorite feature Thus far is the automatic document feeder and the operation is quiet compared to my past HP machines. The Menu on the front of the machine takes a little familiarize for but as time seems user friendly. Customer service was great when I called. I had some problems with the initial setup. It was as simple as identifying the correct port on the back of the machine to use for USB type connections to my PC. Overall I am pleased with the purchase to date.
The Initial Setup is fairly straightforward. The hardest part is installing ink because the cartridge carrier to the back of the printer and lid is only open for about 40 degrees. You need a lot of light to see what you are doing. Once you know it, though, snapping in the ink basket is very easy.
My Printer is set to wireless, so the next Wi-Fi configuration. It’s also very easy, just choose your network and (in my case) enter your WEP key. The last part is to set My Computer (WinXP) to talk to the printer. Again, it’s easy because the setup is all driven from the CD program, Auto-detects the printer and installs the drivers. Rinse and redo the CD for additional computers.
Scanning documents and photos is the easiest through the Canon app that will be installed during setup. The app guides you through a variety of single-sheet scanning options, using the document feeder in one-sided or two-sided mode, and the destination file. I scanned photos, one-sided documents, and 2-sided documents without problems.
Copying documents is even easier, as it can all be done from the front panel of the printer. Using the panel, I was able to copy the 1-sided document into the 2-sided copy by changing the Standard copy print option. I can also copy a 2-sided Doc to 2-sided copies by changing the copy menu from standard copy to a two-sided copy. It was a bit confusing at first, but I got the hang of it.
On the first few dozen pages of the document, I had intermittent black smears at the bottom of the page. That ended up going and I haven’t seen it since. I’m not sure if that’s because my paper is a bit wrinkled or if the ink has been applied during installation, but it goes now.
To print the photo, I again use the installed application. It allows very basic photo editing and Positioning functions, but nothing fancy. You will want to use your own app to edit photos if you are so inclined. You’ll definitely want to change the settings for the highest photo quality, as the default settings can generate artifacts.
I’ve never had a fax machine, but I’ve used them many times before. Fax operations seemed quite standard, although they had a good option to share the phone line assuming that all calls were voice calls until the fax protocol was heard. This avoids the necessity to switch settings to allow faxes to come through. I received one fax and it worked fine. Perhaps this line share is a standard feature in all fax machines today, but it’s new to me.
The print speed is slightly on the slow side but can be tolerated. Also, I hope that the paper tray has a higher capacity, but it is again tolerated. Like many inkjet printers, printing one side of the document will result in a page in reverse order in the output tray (but using Auto-document feeder, the original is still in the correct order). Interestingly, printing/copying with 2-sided output will generate the document in the correct order because each sheet of paper has been reversed. About Automatic Document feeder: Make sure your document is lined up appropriately within the page guide, as the feeder can pull a slightly bent sheet if you’re not careful.
